When: June 28 to July 18
Where: Jakarta - Yogyakarta - Bromo and Ijen - Bali - Gili Air - Gili Trawangan - Bali - Jakarta - Hong Kong
What: It was simple; I had two goals on this trip, and everything else I didn't really care. First the Bromo and Ijen tour, which runs three days and costs about 60-70 USD. I think it was 750,000 Indonesian Rupiah including the transfer to Bali which was 100,000 IDR. So the trip was 650K and you pay entrance tickets whose prices I forgot and you might pay 150K more if you want to do the blue flame tour.
The other goal was freediving. I'd known about this since like three years ago, wanted to try ever since, and this May when I was lost where to go travel my friend suggested that we go together. We ended up not going together and I was still considering Myanmar vs. Indonesia for this trip but seeing that it rained in Myanmar during June and July, I very simplemindedly chose to go to Indonesia (the dry season runs during the summer months, and the rainy season during the winter months).

Updates: Back home, Taiwan, Indonesia, and more
So after a safe yet arduous return home, I flew to Taiwan right away.
And then I was back in Seoul (again) for like two weeks before I flew off to Indonesia again.
The three-week trip to Indonesia was super last minute and I ended up (sort of) regretting flying in and out of Jakarta. With a bit of exaggeration, the Jakarta airport is the worst I've ever been to. Actually it's not even an exaggeration. Paris-Beauvais sucks, it's super shitty, but terminals are walkable and I've never had any problem with it. Well, to be frank I was fine with the airport until the very last leg of the trip when the shuttle bus to the terminal did not arrive (when the plane already landed super late) and my checked baggage took twenty minutes to get to the terminal (I had to yell through the curtains at the belts...) which eventually helped me miss my flight to HK. ^^ Thanks.
Anyhow thankfully I took the next CX flight free of charge and arrived in Hong Kong safely, where I would spend three more days until my return to my comfy airconditioned room and bed.
But the experience in Indonesia was great, the freediving made me think a lot. Apparently I have a problem uploading stuff (everything is incomplete on this blog!) so I'm just writing updates like this. I can still do a short overview of trip thingy.
Ate a lot as always. 근데 where are my food photos..? Lost in a river of photos.
I also started to take all photos with my iPhone. It was good enough, my camera was outdated, I'd lost its lens cover, I didn't want to carry extra valuables with me, so many reasons. It's still a conundrum though. Phone cameras are great, but are they as great as real cameras?
Soon after, like a week after coming back to Seoul, I flew to 제주 where I stayed for almost a week. Probably five days. It was a lot of moving and not moving, eating and not eating, drinking and not drinking.

I think this is Borobudur...? It took me so much time to memorize the name of this temple. It's on almost every "visit Indonesia" brochure. The bell-shaped stupas (next photo) are very characteristic of this Buddhist temple.
Another photo of Borobudur. By the way, all of these five? six? photos of Indonesia were taken with the Xiaoyi camera, Xiaomi's new action camera. It's pretty nice considering I only paid like $120 for the device.
Waiting for the sunrise at Bromo at like five in the morning. This tour (three day Bromo and Ijen) was something, in various regards...
The next day, at like three in the morning. Gosh all the tours started at like 3:30 or 1:00 in the morning. And then for the Ijen blue flame tour (this photo--which is basically blue flames as a result of sulfur gas) you had to 1. drive 40 minutes (or get driven) 2. hike 1 1/2 hours 3. hike DOWN the crater for an hour 4. hike back up to the top 5. hike down, finished! After all of this it's almost 8, you've been walking for seven hours.
A slight view of the Ijen lake as you hike the crater back up. As you hike back up, the sun (finally) rises and you get a nice view. Sun's all up at the top. One thing is.. oh wait. So I got confused with the other lake all along. Haha. I thought Ijen was the lake that had two pools and in which the colors changed.
So that's about it! I might come back with a Indonesia trip overview post with fewer photos. Looking through all photos and selecting which ones are so difficult. I just end up looking at the photos for hours and not choosing which ones to upload... So. Until then. Bye!
